In this interview, Arianna Cozzi, young Concierge of Mandarin Oriental Lake Como, tells us about her experiences in her wonderful structure, suggesting some 2tips” of her experience on the splendid Lombard lake.
1) Arianna, what do you propose to your guests exploring Lake Como for the first time?
Lake Como offers many opportunities to visit its wonders. My advice is to make an excursion in a luxury boat in Venetian style, to understand the grandeur and beauty of the nature surrounding Lake Como. A walk along the lake shore is another way to appreciate this magical place but also the history of the Villa around and the city of Como, rich in works of art, churches, gardens, museums and palaces. For the more curious I suggest to take the cable car from Como to Brunate, also called the “Balcony of the Alps” and enjoy its breathtaking view.
2) Which typical dish of your region do you suggest to try?
As mentioned before, Lake Como is a mixture of water and land and this is also reflected in the food. Guests can enjoy fresh fish from the lake as an appetizer or fried for a good main course. But don’t miss the typical Persian fish served with rice. After a long walk I would suggest you to try the traditional Polenta Uncia seasoned with butter, garlic and local cheese and, of course, a glass of wine selected from the cellars of the region.
3) What is the strangest request you have ever received from a guest?
I think a strange request in our work has become a normal thing. As a Concierge, when we enter our hotels, we turn into another person who no longer thinks about how strange or inappropriate the request is, but how to make it happen. I’d like to tell you an amusing episode that happened recently to me: a young girl calls the Concierge with a voice full of stress and panic over a problem in her room. I immediately told her that I would personally come with her to see what it was all about. I remember it was a very hot summer day and the hotel was hosting a wedding. Therefore, as soon as I got to the room I found four beautiful Asian girls dressed in strange long dresses with straps on their backs that were difficult to fasten. I helped them personally to fix the dresses so much that, after finishing with the first girl, their faces changed, finally smiling again so that one of them said to me: “You saved us, and the wedding…”, simply because they were the bridesmaids…

In questa sua intervista, Arianna Cozzi, giovane Concierge del Mandarin Oriental Lake Como, ci racconta le sue esperienze nella sua splendida struttura, suggerendoci alcune particolarità della sua esperienza sullo splendido lago lombardo.
1) Arianna, cosa proponete ai vostri ospiti che esplorano il Lago di Como per la prima volta?
Il Lago di Como offre tante opportunità per visitare le sue meraviglie. Il mio consiglio è fare una escursione in una lussuosa imbarcazione in stile veneziano, per capire la grandezza e la bellezza della natura che circonda il lago di Come. Una passeggiata lungo la riva del lago è un altro modo per apprezzare questo luogo magico ma anche la storia della Villa intorno e della città di Como, ricca di opere d’arte, chiese, giardini, musei e palazzi. Per i più curiosi consiglio di prendere la funivia da Como a Brunate, chiamata anche il “Balcone delle Alpi” e di godersi il suo panorama mozzafiato.
2) Quale piatto tipico della vostra regione consigliate di provare?
Come detto prima, il Lago di Como è un misto tra acqua e terra e questo si riflette anche sul cibo. Gli ospiti possono gustare il pesce fresco del lago come antipasto o fritto per un buon secondo piatto. Da non perdere il tipico pesce Persico servito con riso. Dopo una lunga passeggiata suggerirei di provare la tradizionale Polenta Uncia condita con burro, aglio e formaggio locale e, naturalmente, un bicchiere di vino selezionato dalle cantine della regione.
3) Qual è la richiesta più strana che avete mai ricevuto da un ospite?
Credo che una strana richiesta nel nostro lavoro sia diventata una cosa normale. Come Concierge, quando entriamo nei nostri hotel, ci trasformiamo in un’altra persona che non pensa più a quanto sia strana o inappropriata la richiesta, ma a come realizzarla. Mi piacerebbe raccontare un episodio divertente accaduto di recente. Un giorno una giovane ragazza chiama la Concierge con la voce piena di stress e di panico per un problema in camera. Le ho subito risposto che sarei venuta personalmente, insieme a lei, a verificare di cosa si trattasse. Era un giorno d’estate e faceva molto caldo. Quel giorno in albergo stavamo ospitando un matrimonio e appena sono arrivata in camera ho trovato quattro bellissime ragazze asiatiche vestite con strani abiti lunghi e con spalline sulla schiena difficili da allacciare. Le ho aiutate personalmente a sistemare gli abiti tanto che, dopo aver finito con la prima ragazza, i loro volti sono cambiati, tornando finalmente a sorridere così che una di loro mi ha detto: “Ci hai salvate e con noi, il matrimonio…” Sì, perché erano proprio loro le damigelle d’onore della sposa.
